4-H Youth Development

In the 2024-2025 school year, Wheeler County 4-H had a profound impact on the county's youth. Many activities were offered, including in-school club meetings, after-school project clubs, judging teams, and shooting sports- to name a few.

Wheeler County 4-H is active in the Wheeler County School District by providing monthly, in-school club meetings for students in grades 5-12, organizing and hosting Farm Day, being guest readers and speakers, introducing students to Georgia Agriculture, and more.

Wheeler County 4-H is active in the community as well. We provide community service projects for students and participate in student-led projects such as planting the garden beds at the Senior Center, picking up trash at the local recreation department, and volunteering with local businesses. All ages of 4-H youth participate in community service projects for the good of Wheeler County.

Agriculture and Natural Resources

Since 2021, the Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent has been proactive in providing updated educational knowledge to stakeholders regarding best forestry practices.? Many private landowners have converted property into sustainable best forestry practices- increasing potential revenue for future generations. This is a long-term plan of work. The Agent and Dr. Clabo have collaborated on pine straw harvesting using conventional and new mechanical harvesting practices.?

Timber, Cotton, and Watermelons are Wheeler County’s top three commodities. Our Agent works diligently to assist these growers, and others, with anything they need. He also takes calls and home/office visits from homeowners who have a variety of questions, needs, and concerns.

The programs provided credits including Continuing Forester Education (CFE), Continuing Logger Education (CLE) and commercial and private pesticide license credits. The field days had sponsored lunches and on-site components to bring a hands-on approach to presentations and demonstrations. The topics of the programs included thinning, secondary pests, longleaf establishment, markets, bark beetles, straw production, site prep, basal area, genetics, invasive species control, storm damage, longleaf production, loblolly production, slash production, herbaceous weed control, tax credits, cost-share programs, and the services and resources available through 成人影院 Extension, GFC and NRCS.
