Our Impact

Making A Difference in Our County

University of Georgia Cooperative Extension is working hard for its constituents. The following are examples of Extension’s impact in the county over the past year.

Family and Consumer Sciences

Our Family and Consumer Sciences program facilitates the ELEVATE grant, which educates couples in healthy relationships. Food and nutrition programs are also taught, as well as ServSafe manager and food handler training for restaurants to understand food safety.

4-H Youth Development

Houston County has transformed the face of 4-H within the community. In 2023-2024, Houston County 4-H enrolled 938 youth participants in club meetings, judging teams, livestock shows and public speaking competitions.?

Agriculture and Natural Resources

Our Ag & Natural Resrouces hosted three commodity meetings, 11 homeowner classes, various livestock/equine programs to adults and youth, and 161 Junior Master Gardeners is 12 schools. We were part of the statewide cotton variety trial and regional rose trial.
