Making A Difference in Our County

University of Georgia Cooperative Extension is working hard for its constituents. The following are examples of Extension’s impact in the county over the past year.

4-H Youth Development

Echols County 4-H is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where all youth and families feel welcome and a sense of belonging, which is a fundamental aspect of 4-H. Through our programs, young people develop into confident and capable leaders who positively impact their communities. In Echols County, 4-H reaches over 575 youth in both public and homeschool settings, offering hands-on educational programming for students in grades 5 through 12. Our activities include fun, educational experiences such as outdoor experiential learning and in-school programming.

In 2024, Echols County youth participated in various events, including Jr/Sr DPA, Cloverleaf DPA, The Georgia Junior National Livestock Show, Swine Shows, Cloverleaf Camp at Rock Eagle, State Council, and several summer field trips. These experiences have helped our youth build confidence, leadership, and public speaking skills. Furthermore, they enhance decision-making abilities and promote values such as mutual respect, responsibility, good sportsmanship, and good citizenship, while also improving math, science, and writing skills.

Agriculture and Natural Resources

In 2024,? Echols County Extension assisted farmers managing more than 10,000 acres of farmland, addressing challenges related to insects, diseases, and weeds. Tropical storms and Hurricane Helene caused damaging winds and excessive rainfall. By collaborating with the University of Georgia’s Extension Specialists, we documented crop and timber losses, as well as damage to land and structures throughout Echols County.

Our agricultural programming involves on-field projects and education through partnerships with 成人影院 agriculture specialists to support local producers. These farmers depend on unbiased, research-based information to make informed decisions about production management. In Echols County, this valuable data is often generated through close partnerships between 成人影院 Extension and local farmers. In 2024, Echols Extension worked alongside local farmers and 成人影院 Extension specialists to collect data on various topics and issues. This included evaluating newly released crop varieties and exploring new disease control options through on-farm research trials.
