4-H Youth Development

What is 4-H?

The mission of Georgia 4-H is to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills, and forming attitudes that will enable them to become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society.? This mission is accomplished? through "hands on" learning experiences, focused on agricultural and environmental issues, agriculture awareness, leadership, communication skills, food and nutrition, health, energy conservation, and citizenship.? Cherokee County offers a variety of programs including in-school meetings, competitive events including project achievement and judging teams, community service projects, and summer 4-H camp.?

Who can join 4-H and how can I join?

All youth, grades K-12, residing in Cherokee Count y may join 4-H.? 4th grade, 5th grade and middle school students may attend meetings at their school where 4-H clubs exist.??

How to enroll?

If your child is brand new to 4-H, please contact the Extension/4-H Office for enrollment information.

All enrolled 4-H'er must complete and mail in the following forms (found on our newsletters and forms tab) to 1130 Bluffs Parkway, Suite G44, Canton, GA 30114:

  • Medical Information and Release Waiver
  • Code of Conduct
  • Online Participation Waiver

County Council:

County Council is a monthly club meeting for all middle and high school students, home school students, or students that do not have a club meeting at their school. County Council is held 6:00-7:00pm at our office. Meeting dates for 2024-2025 are: Aug. 27th, Sept. 24th, Oct. 29th, Nov. 19th, Dec. 17th, Feb.25th, Mar. 25th

Community Service:

Cherokee County 4-H collects pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Cherokee County 4-H holds an annual rabies clinic to promote the importance of?vaccinating pets in our community. Clinic Date and locations will be announced.

Fun and Educational Activities:

Consumer Judging: learn how to make knowledgeable and rational decisions when purchasing goods and services.

Wildlife Judging: learn about Georgia's native wildlife and their habitats

Poultry Judging: learn about the standards used in poultry and egg production

Summer Camp: a week of making fun memories with your friends

Showing Livestock: from feeding to training to show day, this activity teaches responsibility and diligence

Project Achievement:?

4-H Project Achievement (DPA) is a cornerstone in the Georgia 4-H program. From the first Boys Corn Club sharing their crop to today’s presentations & portfolios on hundreds of projects, DPA serves to showcase 4- H'ers work and success. DPA is a public speaking competition where 4-H’ers can present a speech with visual aids on a topic of their choice! The projects offer a variety of topics including sports, wildlife, history, health, performing arts, and many more! Students that participate are eligible for special awards and scholarships.
